In the Eyes of a Student is a personal project born out of curiosity and a genuine desire to engage thoughtfully with science. As a student studying biology and neuroscience, part of my growth includes realizing that understanding almost never moves in a straight line. Ideas or impressions we once had, including how we once saw the scientific world through our youthful eyes, continue to be challenged, reframed, or simply abandoned. This project intends to document each and every part of that process; starting from my interests, how it applies to current research + data, and what it means for the future of medicine.
One of my goals in writing is to make space for thought around scientific research by slowing ideas down. Much of biology and medicine is communicated and encoded in ways that can seem inaccessible or abstract in concept to those outside specific academic settings, even when the questions themselves are deeply human. I do not intend to simply provide summaries of papers; AI can already do that better than me. Here, I try to digest papers when needed, unpack assumptions/impressions, and focus on how conclusions are reached rather than simply what they are. I then discuss said concepts with medical professionals, documenting and analyzing dialogue.
NOTHING published on this site is intended to present itself as expert authority. Rather, this project reflects a student learning to engage with complexity, ask better questions, and trace how understanding and metacognition evolves over time. I invite readers to engage in this ongoing effort to think & learn honestly alongside me
